Course Set 22575VIC Course in Basic Oxygen Administration for First Aid

Learn the required skills, roles and responsibilities to provide basic oxygen administration in the workplace at an industry standard. Successful students will have the ability to respond to a variety complex emergency events. This course is delivered on behalf with Allens Training Pty Ltd RTO 90909 and includes a short online pre-class component.

The course applies to individuals who will be able to recognise and respond to emergency situations that may require them to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on a casualty in a range of situations, including the application of oxygen therapy or oxygen resuscitation, as appropriate, until the arrival of medical assistance. The course is delivered in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines.

This course is applicable to workers or nominated workplace first aiders from an industry sector where they may be required to provide CPR and basic oxygen therapy in an emergency situation, as part of their role at work or in the community at large.

Qualification

participants who have completed the HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation and 22575VIC Course in Basic Oxygen Administration for First Aid course and have been assessed as competent in all assessments will receive a digital Statement of Attainment in:

  • 22575VIC – Course in Basic Oxygen Administration for First Aid
  • HLTAID009 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation

We try and have a fast turnaround time of certificates.

It is recommended that participants in this course have literacy and numeracy competencies equivalent to the Australian Core Skills Framework Level 2. An example of ACSF Level 2 is being able to request appropriate emergency assistance at the scene of the incident. Participants in the Course in Basic Oxygen Administration must be able to demonstrate current competence in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, which is to be renewed annually.

Participants must have the physical capacity to perform 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor.

Participants must be physically capable of controlling risks and hazards and appropriately administering oxygen using specified delivery devices.

Please notify us if you have any medical conditions or special needs that may prevent you completing all practical assessments. This includes performing single rescuer CPR on a resuscitation mannequin placed on the floor for a minimum of 2 minutes.

Course Durations

Course durations can vary for multiple reasons, so the durations below are the minimum possible amount.

  • Refresher Face to Face contact time of at least 5 Hours
  • Blended Face to Face contact time of at least 5 Hours
  • Face-to-Face Face to Face contact time of at least 6 Hours

Entry Requirements

An individual undertaking the Course in Basic Oxygen Administration for First Aid must be able to demonstrate current competence in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. All participants of this course set will be completing the HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation unit of competency and will meet the entry requirement.

Furthermore, an individual undertaking this course with Allens Training Pty Ltd will need to demonstrate the following to be eligible for entry:

  • Physical capability to be able to meet the demands of the practical demonstration skills including CPR (CPR must be performed on the floor and rescue breathing techniques demonstrated on manikins, with no exemption)

Assessment Activities

Assessments conducted during the face-to-face training session(s) include:

Practical scenarios and performance tasks 

  • Adult CPR (including defibrillation and placing the casualty in the recovery position)
  • Infant CPR
  • Administer oxygen to an adult and child

Documentation: Completion of an incident report form

Theory assessment: A written assessment consisting of short-answer and multiple-choice questions.
